About Tomeko Brown – Children’s Author

Welcome! I’m Tomeko Brown. I am an award-winning children’s author and founder of the growing brand Moving Notes Books, LLC. I am passionate about helping children discover the power of perseverance, confidence, and community through storytelling.

Behind the Story

A former clarinet player herself, what started as a creative project quickly grew into something much more meaningful. Along with my son’s shared creative thoughts, An Instrument for Florenda was born. It’s a story about believing in yourself, no matter what challenges you may face.

Before I was an author, I worked in education and healthcare for over a decade. I supported children and families from all walks of life. My background has given me a deep appreciation for the emotional, social, and academic journeys that kids navigate every day.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Education from East Carolina University. I also hold a Master of Education in Instructional Design and Technology from West Texas A&M University. Additionally, I have a Certificate in Early Childhood Services.

Recognition & Media

I’m honored that my work has received several awards and my voice has been featured by incredible platforms:

These honors mean a lot. The biggest reward is hearing how readers connect with the characters in my book. I especially value how children relate to the characters.

Beyond the Books

Besides writing, I offer:

  • Free printable activity sheets to extend learning at home or in school
  • School visits and book readings
  • Interviews and podcast features that explore my creative process and speak on the importance of community

Thank you for visiting and believing in the power of stories and community.

With heart,
Tomeko
